Operation: Garden Transformation

I am no a gardener.  I think that's pretty obvious by the look of my garden...  I planted the tulips that were a wedding favor (I've been watching their love grow... : )) but that's where my efforts ended...

My mother in law on the other hand is quite the opposite and lucky for me (and the neighbors) she is going to coach me on this shortcoming...

She helped me trim my massive ugly rose bush on Sunday... Apparently leaving it for 3 years isn't the best idea.  Who knew!?  I guess you're supposed to trim it to keep the centre open.  So you trim branches right above an off-shoot facing outwards to keep it under control.

She is an award winning gardener herself...  When I was kid (before knowing James) we used to call their house 'The Secret Garden House' and we'd marvel at  it's beauty every time we passed.  They moved a few years ago to a house with no gardens to speak of and transformed it into this beautiful escape...

The pictures really don't do it justice, but they were awarded for it last summer...

So anyway, I'm not expecting this kind of a masterpiece to come from my garden, I really don't have the time or motivation, but I'm sure with Hilary's help I will turn this hunk of junk into at the very least a good effort... : )

So let this post mark the beginning of Operation: Garden Transformation!  I would LOVE any suggestions anyone has...and I will be sure to include all of Hilary's advice just in case any of you would like to join me on this dirty adventure.

My first step was to buy a big bag of Sheep Shit ... I got mine courtesy of my mom, but I'm sure it's available anywhere... You mix it up with your soil to give it some nutrients...but you don't need too much... I'll take some photo's once I crack it open and start doing my worst...

Stay tuned for further developments!

Thanks for reading...
